Safe Internet Day Celebration in UAE by Telecommunications Regulatory Authority (TRA) Computer Emergency Response Team (CERT) and Nahtam Social Responsibility Abu Dhabi

At a time when the Internet is frequently used by almost everybody with varied intentions, protecting your privacy or keeping yourself safe is your own responsibility. It is found that the majority of Internet users are not conscious of the grave dangers lurking behind it. And those who are conscious are not certain about reliable protective measures. Children are at greater risk. Both parents and children need to be educated on cyber safety.

Telecommunications Regulatory Authority (TRA) and Computer Emergency Response Team (aeCERT) are joining hands to address this social and personal issue in an effective way. Together with Nahtham Social Responsibility, Abu Dhabi, they are organizing Cyber Safe Home workshops at schools. Themed NahtamDisc, the workshops are aimed at both students and their parents.

The first Cyber Safe Home workshop is being held at Al Salam Girl School Dubai from 2nd to 6th March. In addition to 16 government schools students, a good number of parents, mostly women, are attending the workshop. They are introduced to ‘five important cyber measures’ that would ensure more reliable internet protection. These include: setting a strong password and keeping it confidential; keeping computers in a common area such as living room or dining hall; keeping private information private; installing parent control device or filtering software or hardware; and checking internet history regularly. The organizers are committed to taking this social responsibility campaign to broader and deeper levels, helping more people ensure their own safety on the worldwide web.

67 Inspiring Stories – The concept

67 Inspiring Stories is an exclusive collection of real-life stories written by 67 individuals who took time to help out those around them. Each story narrates a heartwarming experience inspired by the commemorative Nelson Mandela Day Celebration, which was organized by Nahtam Social Responsibility, South African Embassy in Abu Dhabi and United Nations Development Programme (UNDP) United Arab Emirates at Khalidiya Mall on July 2011. The number 67 symbolizes the number of years Mandela spent dedicating himself to community service in the tormenting times of apartheid. By taking care of his fellow beings in all those years of hardship and pain, Mandela sent a striking message to humanity that one can change the world through little acts of kindness and compassion even in the absence of wealth and position. .
